Grand Master Herbalist, Victor Shim was born in East Malaysia and began studying at the age of 14. He was destined to greatness. as his parents, Grandparents, and Great-Grandparents were all herbalists. Victor Shim was one of only four students chosen to receive the teachings and wisdom of a small group of masters who fled communist China to live in Malaysia. His primary teacher was Grand Master Chang, a renowned and revered physician. Grand Master Chang used his superior talents in the areas of Chinese Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture, Acupressure, and Tai Chi to facilitate learning and healing throughout Southeast Asia.
After years of training and countless hours of practice, Victor Shim attained the level of Master of Chinese Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Martial Arts, Meditation and Tai Chi. He literally is ” one in a million” in terms of knowledge and skills that he uses to assess the flow of chi through the various energy meridians in the body. He blends the unique herbal formulas he creates based on the Chinese Five Element System and the Oriental concept of yin and yang. Some of his recipes are over two thousand years old and have stood the test of time. There is nothing comparable in modern medicine. Pharmaceuticals are derivatives of natural medicine and not in their natural state, therefore, causing many side effects.
Victor was a school teacher in Malaysia for almost 10 years before his masters urged him to move to Canada. In 1973, Victor moved to Vancouver BC and taught meditation and Tai Chi. In 1978 he moved to Edmonton, AB and taught Tai Chi in the Faculty Extension Programs in the University of Alberta for several years.
To this day Victor still operates his clinic called Ancient Alternatives located in Edmonton AB. Clients go to see him daily to have their pulses read, acupuncture or acupressure performed, and to buy the herbs. Master Shim’s life purpose has been to help those that want help, to regain and maintain good health, and well being, through practices of alternative medicine.
